Currently Devro has factories in six countries in the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, China, the Czech Republic and Australia. Collagen casings in Indonesia are supplied by their factory located in Australia. For Indonesia collagen casings must also be halal certified.
Devro produces various types of casings according to the needs and tastes of consumers. Based on how sausages are processed, there are four kinds of casings for sausages: 1) fresh 2) processed 3) smoked and 4) dried. Based on the color, there are clear, bold red, frankfurter red, continental brown and others. The available casing diameters are between 13 - 30 mm. Various types of casings are used in various types of sausage products such as frankfurters, wieners, hot dogs, chipolata, cabanossi, salami, lapcheong (Chinese sausage), snacksticks and others.
Devro casings made of bovine collagen are edible casings so they do not need to be peeled before consumption. Sausages with collagen casing have a chewy texture with a dense and attractive appearance. Another plus is the sensation of "knack bite" when bitten.
Along with the development of sausage processing technology, Devro also produces sausage casings based on co-extrusion gel namely co-ex gels and plant-based co-ex gel.
Another choice for processors is MiniRalen which is manufactured in the Czech Republic. Polyamide is a casing with a very competitive price so it is suitable for producing sausages at affordable prices. Polyamide is a plastic derivative that is food grade so it is safe to use because it does not contain chlorine or plasticizers. The advantages of polyamide casing in addition to providing an attractive appearance with several color choices produces sausages with a long shelf life, low cooking loss and use simplified cooking methods such as simmering (boiling with a temperature of less than 80C).
The latest innovation of polyamide casing is MiniSmoke which is smokeable, which can undergo a smoking process as well as collagen casing and cellulose casing because it has the ability to impart the smell of smoke and the characteristic brownish color of smokse to the finished sausage. Devro also produces MiniPeel polyamide casing which has easy-to-peel characteristic either peeled manually or using a peeling machine due to its non-adhesive surface.
